Jam n Hop 2008

Same guy, same girl, different feeling. No feeling.

It's been a full-of-work day. After 5 hrs work in Foodgle, I went to this club at MPSH1, Pandemonium, Jam and Hop 2008... Not as crowded as I have expected but well... Quite a good experience.

Kind of funny that I learn something new about myself today. I am an itchy person. Well, story goes like this... After being stuck in the bag deposit counter of JnH with Edwin for err 15mins I think, I just couldnt take it. There was definitely something wrong with the counter. Guess they needed more people. So I just screamed to a friend of mine "Just give me the pass, would you!" And he/she gave me the helper pass and there I was, running around getting bags to clear the counter. About 15 minutes later, the counter was cleared (with a few more people helping) and I could enter the 'dance floor'. Anyways, maybe I am very passionate about manual work. But then again, just give me work to scratch my itchy hands.

Oh, another funny thing... I could taste alcohol! You see, I asked Jason for coffee. But at the first sip, I was like 'wth, coffee tastes so funny' n I spat it out to a tissue paper. Upon a little, well... investigation haha... I found out that the coffee has been mixed with alcohol. Hahaha... And to think Jason insisted that the coffee was okay... No alcohol for me, dude....

PS: What happens to Hallmark? Was that new product implying that they do support gay marriage? Or.... implying something else?

ME3162

I want to specialize in manufacturing. Funny eh? Well, sometimes a good lecturer might make a subject becoming very very interesting. VERY interesting. Manufacturing process has been fun and enjoyable for me. Maybe the lecturer is good, maybe because the subject is hands on.

Okay, so I have mentioned about the lecturer a few times. This Prof Seah Kar Heng is an interesting one. The way he delivers the lecture is fresh for me. Well, somehow I just did not sleep in his two two-hour lectures. The video (on steel manufacturing plant) really catches my interest. Then just today (or rather technically yesterday) he played flute in the LT7. Cool isnt it? I mean, just to show example of mild steel product which has undergone the drawing process, he played flute. And he's not that bad. And he commented that he can busk after retirement. How cool is that???

Checked his background:
PhD from Queen's College, England (errrrrrrrr.....)
RH Hall Master (no wonder la...)

PS: I hope I could get a good grade on this mod.... work work...

17 Agst Reflection

It is not Indonesia National Day, you know... It's the INDEPENDENCE DAY. Some people claim that there is no difference in both terms. But oh well, personally for me, there is a HUGE difference in that. You see, the terms independence denotes the existence of the struggle to erect the nation. How can one be not proud over this? Try to tell other true blue Indonesians that today is merely their national day (aka a day where it is being celebrated by the nation) instead of independence day (aka a day whereby the nation is being created after long long long long struggle against few other colonial forces) and I think they will respect you a little lower than usual.

While this notion of nationalism has degraded in some Indonesians, I do not believe that I am extremist. While I consider myself patriotic, up to a point that I could almost cry upon hearing Indonesia Raya and salute the Sang Saka Merah Putih, I think it is perfectly alright for Singaporeans (etc) to call us Indons rather than the proper Indonesians or Indos. Oh well, I dont hate Dutch, Japs, Brits as well... In fact I love their girls.... (errr....)

I have touched on this nationalism yesterday using Mbah Dukun's mouth. I greeted the crows using Javanese (the super polite one, that is) before proceed to apologize that I forgot that I have left Java and thus should not speak Javanese anymore as some might not understand. Well, I hope this message has managed to enter targeted groups' mind, that even if a person out of 10 in your group does not understand a language, DONT speak it. This comes from my experience at Engin O Week 2007 Committee. The meeting sometimes broke into Chinese! Of course I am not happy and purposely causing trouble in the end to show my dissatisfaction. Oh, just some clarification, I told them nicely to speak English a few times before I proceeded to the not-so-nice way. Similar to that, I actually want to start this habit in PINUS whereby everyone speak Indo in meetings, events or even in normal daily life. Not necessary the formal language. Heavily accentuated one will do as long as it is Indonesian. I could understand 'gua mau makan', 'wa mau makan', 'aku tak makan' all perfectly well as 'I want to eat' though all sounds a little difference. But hey, it may take a while huh?

PS: Oh, and HAAAAPPYYY BIRTHDAYYYY TOOOOO YOUUUUU....
PS2: By the way... Do you know 'dirgahayu' means 'long live' and not 'happy birthday'?

The Mad One in PINUS

Okay, Idiotic MC was out at KuliNite. Mbah Dukun is out n Tikoes Hendratmo is out, both at NUSantaraku. So who's next?

The segment I ran was good (at least I wasnt nervous) imho. I enjoyed all the things. Glad to see people laughed at me in my full costume when I came in. Great, so my preparation does worth the trouble. Anyways, I hope all the ppl whom I have poked earlier would forgive me. After all, it was in the name of good fun. Hmm, maybe I should abstain from poking people for a month to let it cool down first.... NOPE! And well, glad my cousin loved it haha... Kind of treating him a good show, wew...

But overall, I love PINUS this year. Definitely. We have a total of 3 events and well... I think they were good. The graduation thingy has traditionally low attendance every year, but this year there were much more graduating seniors than last year. KuliNUS-KuliNite was a blast. The level of highness of these FOP was damn good. At least all the groups were onst! And the latest, MKP stuff, NUSantaraku, was good. The first part was as solemn as it is required, while the second part was as crazy as it can be. Whoo... Things may go better for NUANSA this year. Jiayou Cit!

A bit update for NUSSU Exco.
President, check.
HonFin, check.
Deputy HonFin, check.
DoL, check.

A Bit of Things Here and There

I AM BACK

After Jangkrik (in case you dont know.... that is my comp's name) broke down for a solid month, he has been revived by Adit by plucking out one of the 1GB RAM. Okay, so now he is running with half RAM but hey, he is still working lolz...

So, yeah... I AM BACK.. with more action
(this sentence does NOT refer to WHAT SAY U SAY)

2 best OGs, 1 self declared best OG and a massive lost of voice after the 5 week worth of FOPs, I am darker right now. Yet I still need to do an MCing job for PINUS. Okay, it is not really MCing larh, just get the crowd to hype up. Wish me luck peeps...

Speaking of leading an orientation group, well... I must say that I learn a lot from this fellow called Ow Zhaohui (full name here, in case he likes to google his own name haha). He was in Flying Dutchman (my OG in Engin Camp 2007) and basicly the one who starts all the madness.

So, here's some things I learn after 2 Engin Camps, 2 Engin Oweeks, 2 Union Camps, 2 NUS Explorer, 2 KuliNUS, 1 Chess Camp and 1 Cyberia Camp:
1. The essence of cheering is not the words, but how high you are after the cheer. Even if you forget the words, just anyhow one.
2. In orientation camps, one person doing crazy stuff -> mad, two persons doing crazy stuff -> stupid, but one whole og doing it -> best OG!
3. Losing a game is okay, but losing face is not. MUST cheer better!
4. The role of an OGL is to set up a standard. The OGL must be slightly more 'high' than the freshies, but cant be too 'high' till they cant catch up. Once they catch up, increase your level of 'high' ness.
5. If your OG does not look like the best, heads up! No worry, every OG has the potential to be the best in something. I have an OG who is the best in clubbing and taking photos.
6. Always have a game to play in hand. Continuity of activity is very important to keep the spirit level high.
7. OGL must know the cheers by heart. It is not funny (aka leaving good impression) to read from the cheer list.
8. To earn bonus point, sometimes the comms want you to entertain them. Think of some cool stuff to do beforehand.
9. Contribute to your house. Best councillor is nowhere as good as best OG. Best OG is good, but best OG in a best house is awesome.
10. Cheer is to increase your spirit level, not looking for enemy. So, when you cheer, always put that smile on the face (as Joker says...)

Now that sounds like a Ten Commandments...

Lets add the eleventh commandment...
11. What works for an OG might not work for other OG (games, cheers, flashmobs...)

Indonesian Idol Season 5

Oh well... This crazy TLO has followed this season of Indonesian Idol from youtube. Well, it is very very entertaining. Although a little bit irritated with those cheering-all-the-time live spectators, I still want to watch it live from Sarbini (no chance though...). Few links for stuff I have considered as bloody darn good. By no means it is meant to be a professional judgement... Just a personal view of a layman with a lousy voice. Will definitely update this list till the end, I guess. Feel free to recommend good ones...

Btw that guitarist is from GMB right?? Anyone know the fact? Oh, it is

When I was scrolling to Aji's Ketahuan video, accidentally stumbled upon a comment, saying that Winda's (II1) version of Sang Dewi is way much better than Titi DJ's (original singer) one. Since Dyna performed that one as well, I decided to check it out and yeah! It was waaay better... The feel is there. Come on Titi DJ... The song is very mellow yet when it is sung by her I was disgusted at her smiling-all-song-length routine. Come on.... Mellow time yo!
Titi DJ - Original
Winda II1 - Crispy, uh I mean cover

Disappointing week... No one is good enough to entertain me other than Andy's copy of Anang and Rhoma Irama haha... But then... OMG!!!! Javanese Rap! Ubercool!!!! (but only THAT part, Aji was not THAT good that day, Aris is so so, and Ibeth is out sigh..)

Witing tresna jalaran saka kulina
Jarene wong Jawa nek kowe tresna
Mangan ora enak sinau ora isa
Pokoke ora enak wae nganggo ngapa ngapa

Dyna was decent but she's getting boring! Always that ballad type... Sigh, come on, the theme is Fresh... But I think Patudu was good this time round in my eyes. He sang that heartache song with all his heart which is good! Maybe I want to sing it too? (err..) Pity him though for his heartbreak... Aris and Beto were nothing special, while Aji's surprise this time involving a change of rhytm. On the side note, TLO is feeling mad upon the loss of another rocker!
